Role of the Skin
January 10th, 2012
The oil secreted by the sebaceous glands, which belongs to the epidermal layer acts as the skin’s natural lubricant, moisturizer, and water proofer. This oily substance combines with sweat to create a sticky layer to protect the skin’s surface. The skin also breathes – yes, it can inhale as well as exhale air. The skin intakes minimal oxygen and in return releases the carbon dioxide along with some toxic substances and other gases If this process, does not occur in the correct order then the skin becomes prone to blemishes, acne, swelling and a dull complexion.
